PROJECT TO BOOST SALES OF PRODUCTS OF CANADA
UNIDENTIFIED (CHBC-TV): Today in Vancouver, the federal government
launched an action plan aimed at getting Canadian consumers to eat Canadian.
As part of a pilot project at Stong’s Market, Canadian foods will be
identified with a maple leaf. Banners, signs on shelve displays and retail
fliers will highlight Canadian food products. The food industry is now
Canada’s largest employer and manufacturing and the goal is to become even
bigger and better.
JEAN-PIERRE BLACKBURN (Agriculture Minister): It’s an industry that gives a lot to Canada and one that is well worth supporting. When it is written “Product of Canada” with the maple leaf label, Canadians like that and they want to buy that.
